Using the Spectra Clear Intense Pulsed Light System a flash of a specific band of light over the treatment area targets the melanin in the shaft and is converted to heat. The heat and light travel down the hair shaft and disables the hair follicle so that it is no longer able to produce hair.
How long is each treatment?
Each treatment is relatively quick, depending on the size of the area to be treated. For example, the upper lip takes about 2 minutes while a full upper and lower leg treatment takes approximately 50 minutes.
How many treatments will I need?
Whether you have treatments with lasers or intense pulsed light, more than one treatment will always be needed. This is because hair has a growth cycle with three phases, and it is only possible to disable hair growth during the active (anagen) growth phase. Different areas of the body have different growth cycles, so varying amounts of hair will be in the anagen phase at any one time. During your consultation, we will tell you when your return visit(s) should be in order to eliminate the greatest amount of hair in the next anagen phase. For this reason, most people need between 4 - 8 treatments for optimal hair removal results.
